There are countless stories and myths of spirits and ghosts dwelling in and near water – particularly large bodies of water such as lakes.
A water spirit is a kind of supernatural being – male or female – found in the folklore of many cultures, including African, Celtic, North American, Greek and Chinese, among others.
While photographing over many dry lakes in Australia, I noticed numerous almost spectral images imprinted by receding waters. This was the start of a series called ‘Ghosts in the lake’, of which these are three examples.
